Yoga Reading Group

Explore yoga beyond the mat

When: Begins May 7th and then every other Thursday, 6:30pm–7:30pm

Where: Cha House, Avondale

Free to attend

Yoga often begins on the mat…and then, at some point, it starts to move into the rest of life. Join us for a yoga reading group where we will explore the teachings behind the practice in conversation, reflection, and community. This book club is free and open to all curious minds, regardless of experience with yoga. Our first book will be Stephen Cope’s Yoga and the Quest for the True Self.

For anyone looking to purchase a copy, our friends at Thank You Books will have extra copies on hand and are happy for reading group members to order directly. The Birmingham Public Library also has at least one copy. If you have questions, send Paul an email at paul@yogalabbham.com.

yoga and the quest for the true self

“Millions of Americans know yoga as a superb form of exercise and as a potent source of calm in our stress-filled lives. Far fewer are aware of the full promise of yoga as a 4,000-year-old practical path of liberation—a path that fits the needs of modern Western seekers with startling precision…

[Stephen Cope] demystifies the philosophy, psychology, and practice of yoga … and he shows us that in yoga, “liberation” does not require us to leave our everyday lives for some transcendent spiritual plane—life itself is the path.”
